Oh Evander...

http://sports.espn.go.com (Click for larger view)

Well, by now the whole world must have heard about four-time World Heavyweight Champion Evander Holyfield's financial woes. Apart from foreclosing on his 109-room, 54,000 square foot Atlanta home, he apparently owes $5000,000 in landscaping fees and child support to one of the mothers of his nine children. To read the full story, click here.

Dayum. It's sad when a man can have a lucrative 24-year career, including earning $34,000,000 in one fight alone, then to come to this. Wanna bet paying for his house did him in? The pool alone looks expensive to maintain....

Should Obama make Clinton his running mate?

Now that Barack Obama has been given the nod by his party, the next question on everyone's lips is who will be his running mate?

Obama has chosen a team to help choose his potential Vice President and word is that his opponent in the primary, Hillary Clinton, wants the second spot. Some of her supporters appear to think it's her right and out of respect Obama should offer her the spot.

Well, who knows what Obama's going to do, but what do you think? Should he bring Hillary Clinton, who had taken a few pot shots at him during the campaign, on to his slate?

Vote in the side bar, peoples.

Let the Games begin...

At last. After 17 months of campaigning, debating and in some cases mud-slinging, Senator Barack Obama has created history by being the first black candidate nominated by a major party in USA to run for presidential office.

You can read the story here. It will be interesting to see if he chooses Hillary Clinton as his running mate...

Something new

Hi, peoples! Hope you're all well out there and coping okay with the high cost of living, rising fuel prices and all that.

Thanks much for all your comments, even though I had to delete a few cussing me out about that darn tattoo post from over a year ago. Some folks take things way too seriously....

Anyhoo, a friend of mine, who we'll call Starr, is at this moment winging her way to China, where she'll be living for the next two months while she completes a course. She'll be contributing to the blog on what I hope will be a regular basis, and giving us an insight into life in China, its preparations for Olympics and other areas of interest.

Hopefully you'll all stay tuned for that.

Cover Fab + Chrianna PDA

Two of Black America's powerhouses recently graced the covers of the affluent publications Time Magazine and Black Enterprise.

For a publication like Time Magazine to throw its support behind a yet uundeclared candidate says a lot. This is really going to start a war in the Clinton camp...

And Ms. Oprah Winfrey chats exclusively with Black Enterprise magazine for its June issue about the beginning of her career and her business choices. On Friday, May 16, Black Enterprise will name Winfrey’s Harpo Inc. its 2008 be100s Company of the Year. Good job.

So, what's the latest with with R&B lovebirds Rihanna and Chris Brown? The couple was spotted all pda'd recently in a Miami KFC.

Hmmm. I wonder if one of them has an endorsement from KFC? Seriously though...it's good to see them having a bit of normalcy.

Rih-Rih the Fashion Queen

Rihanna continues to dominate the fashion world, recently going on a photo shoot for InStyle magazine.

She also rocked a hot Gucci dress for US Weekly magazine.

Do your thing then, Rih-Rih.

Catching up

Hi, peoples. I feel really horrible for ignoring this blog for so long but things have been really overwhelming of late. I was even considering shutting down the blog for a while but frankly I miss blogging and reading your comments.

So, what's been going on since I last posted? Well, fuel prices rose again and along with that most other things. It's definitely time to watch the coppers now. I know some folks who are downsizing their vehicles to ones with smaller tanks.

The other big news story going on (and on and on and on) is that of the Ghanaians and Nigerians stranded in Barbados. The whole thing is as fishy as Oistins Market after a big catch. I've heard so many things to make me believe that something crooked went down with their trip here, and I think they were duped and need to come clean.

Now Government is going to have to pay $1.2 million to get them back home. Doesn't Caribbean Airlines have a plane we could charter at a cheaper cost? Damn.

Guess who?

Guess who's hitting the tattoo parlour again?

That was easy, right? None other than local songstress Rihanna, who recently extended her star-spangled tat at Whatever Tattoo Parlour in New York.

Rih Rih was in NYC to attend a party for her personal assistant, Melissa Forde (the red-headed girl you see in a lot of photos with Rihanna).

And who else was in attendance? Rihanna not-boyfriend of course, Chris Brown.

He's cute and all, but he really needs to update his wardrobe. Work that out, Rih Rih.

Rihanna "Takes a Bow"

What has local Grammy winner Rihanna been up to these days? I came across these photos of Rih-Rih shooting a music video for her single "Take a Bow", which is on her latest album Good Girl Gone Bad.

Looks like fun. Doesn't that red jacket remind you of Michael Jackson in his Thriller video? I'll be sure to see if I can post up the video when it's completed.

The other side of the mountaintop

Hey, peoples. I know I've really been ignoring the blog recently but with work I haven't been keeping in touch with what's happening in the news, and I like to know what I'm talking about when I post.

Well, I do know that today marks the 40th anniversary of the assassination of civil rights leader extraordinaire Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Forty years isn't really a long time when it relates to the development of man, so I'm sure many people will be debating today how much has really changed since the days of the late civil rights icon.

I came across an interesting article on his life and final days. Enjoy.

A More Perfect Union

A lot of discussion has been generated by a speech delivered recently by US Presidential hopeful Senator Barack Obama on race and politics in that country.

The speech is inspiring to say the least, and some are likening it to Martin Luther King Jr's "I Have A Dream" speech. You can watch it below, and if you prefer to read the text of the speech, click here.

For the J.Lo fans...

For all you Jennifer Lopez fans out there, here's a photo of the singer/actress/dancer on the cover of this week's People Magazine with her one month-old twins, Max and Emme.

It was reported that People paid J.Lo $6 million for the cover shoot. Dang, that can buy a lot of pampers and milk....

Congrats to her and husband Marc Anthony.

Happy Easter!

Hi, peoples. Here's wishing all of you a peaceful and blessed Easter. It's a long weekend here, beginning yesterday with Good Friday and ending with a bank holiday on Monday.

It's a pretty peaceful time here in Bim, lots of kite-flying and church-going. It's also a time for spring-cleaning and cooking up a storm...a bit like Christmas but a lot less hectic.

Wherever you are in the world, enjoy!

Standing by your man

As the Spitzer prostitution scandal continues to unfold, lots of articles are being generated about the lives of the former New York Governor and his wife, and of course about previous scandals involving political figures.

I came across this article on why the wives of these prominent men stand by them in times of scandal and I started to wonder if the same thing would happen here in Barbados. I know that embattled Vincentian PM Ralph Gonsalves' wife was by his side recently at a press conference about rape allegations made against him, but I wonder if a Bajan bigwig were to run into trouble if wifey would represent her man or kick him to the curb.

Anyhoo, if this US investigation I heard about into prostituion rings in Barbados really gets going, we may soon find out....

Have a good weekend!

First Black New York Governor appointed

Well, since former New York Governor Eliot Spitzer has gone and gotten himself caught up up in a prostitution ring and had to resign, his Lt. Governor David Paterson is taking over as Governor of New York on March 17th and is the first black man (he’s also of Jamaican and Grenadian heritage) to do so.

Paterson also made history by becoming the first legally blind person to address the Democratic National Convention and the first visually impaired person to become Governor of any state. Congrats to him.

The Brits have talk for Bajan 'proper pork'

I had to stupse really hard when I saw on the news on Sunday evening that the British Pig Association was comparing our Bajan proper pork unfavourably to British pork.

That created a laugh at my house, because if there's one thing Barbados is renowned for it's the quality of our pork and ham. Odes have been written about the joys of eating a hamcutter. Ask Richard "Low Down Hoad".

Tourists act like they've died and gone to heaven when they tuck into our pudding and souse, fried pork our that juicy leg or shoulder ham from a certain distributor on Fontabelle.

I don't know about you, but I've never eaten any meat in England that could hold a candle to our Bajan proper pork. As for what they call ham, wuhloss don't even go there. Good luck trying to get that flavoured. If the British pork is so sweet, why are my relatives in England crying these days because they can't take back Bajan ham like they used to, and clamouring for every bit of seasoning they could find to flavour up their meats?

Anyhoo, I won't belabour the point. Suffice it to say, would you eat any meat coming from this? I'm just saying....

Another Super Tuesday

Good luck to my fave presidential hopeful, Barack Obama, as primaries are held in Texas, Ohio, Rhode Island and Vermont. If he can clinch Texas and Ohio I think he stands a good chance of gaining his party's nod for President.

How the primaries have unfolded has surprised a lot of persons, myself included. Obama has Hillary Clinton on the ropes, and not even this little girl seems to think much of her chances...just kidding.

'Chrianna' gets lovey-dovey

Hi, peoples. Sorry for the breaks between posts but new duties have been keeping me busy. Let's roll with a few pics I've been holding for you Rihanna and Chris fans out there. The couple has been dubbed Chrianna by the tabloids, by the way...

The couple recently attended John Galliano's fashion show in Paris and brought the cuteness.

They also hung out in the VIP section of a Paris nightclub.

Hmm. I usually get suspicious when celebs do the PDA thing when they know the paparazzi or someone else is going to be snapping pics, but I'll give them the benefit of the doubt for now....
