President Obama takes in some hoops action

Even the "leader of the free world" has to relax too, and last night President Obama and his hometown friend Marty took in the Chicago Bulls vs. Washington Wizards game at the Verizon Centre.

He must have given his security detail the fits, cause the Prez sat courtside not in a protected VIP box. Here's some pics from YBF.

Ho hum. This is nothing special; I sit next to Presidents all the time.

Let's play a game of spot the security detail....

Girl, if Michelle catches you shaking that booty in the President's face....

This little one ain't shy at all.

It'll be easier to get rid of the tattoo...

Sigh.

I don't know if this is true, but if it is, I'm not surprised. When I read that Rihanna wasn't going to press charges against the lil boy, I was prepared for this.

I hope you know, girl, the world is gonna be watching you two. Prepare for every scratch, bruise, cut or welt on your skin to be scrutinised and analysed. Good luck 'cause I done.

Friday Fun: Fave cancelled shows

In tv-land, it isn't always the bad shows that get cancelled; sometimes there're some pretty decent sitcoms and dramas that for one reason or other get the axe.

Here's a list of some of my fave shows that have gotten cancelled in recent years. These days I don't get to watch as much tv as I used to but when I can I like to take in Chuck (dweeby but silly fun), Terminator: Sarah Connor Chronicles , 24 and Ugly Betty.

I've been hearing good things about Damages, Burn Notice, Fringe and True Blood but with the little one I'll probably have to watch those on DVD sometime in future. Anyhoo, here's my Top 10:

www.impawards.com
10. Cane. It isn't every day you come across a drama in which the central cast is not only all-Hispanic, but wealthy as well. I love Jimmy Smits so I hung in there with the show, and it wasn't bad at all. Unfortunately, it got the chop last year.

www.entertainmentwallpaper.com
9. Men in Trees. Poor Anne Heche can't get a break. Just when Men in Trees seemed to be in for the long haul, it was cancelled abruptly sometime last year. Oh well, at least she got a new husband out of it....

www.televisionwithoutpity.com
8. Jericho. The premise of Jericho was that a nuclear bomb pretty much wipes out normal life in the US, except for the small town of Jerico somewhere in the midwest. I like these kinds of shows, and it had all the elements of good drama. But alas, it bit the dust despite furious protests and petitions from fans.

www.televisionwithoutpity.com
7. Everwood. Teen angst (including a boyfriend in a coma) and father-son tensions abounded in this popular drama. The snow-clad mountain scenes made me feel like taking a trip to Colorado, and I can't even stand the cold. I guess neither could the studio executives. Pity.

http://tv.popcrunch.com
6. Firefly. A show about cowboys and girls in space? Only Joss Whedon of Buffy and Angel fame could pull that off. Alas, Firefly didn't stick around as long as those shows, but at least we got a decent movie, Serenity, out of it. And I can still watch River Tam on Terminator and Jayne on Chuck. Watch the shows if you want to figure out what I mean.

www.starpulse.com
5. Moonlight. I love vampire shows, and this one was a vampire love story so I really, really liked it. And it didn't suck at all, all pun intended so I don't know why it was cancelled.

www.popsucker.net
4. Boston Legal. No more Denny Crane and Alan Shore. Boo hoo. My Monday nights will never be the same again.

www.televisionwithoutpity.com
3. Roswell. I never missed an episode of Roswell and I was surprised when the well-written show about teen aliens in the New Mexico town was axed a few years back. Since then Katherine Heigl has become a big star thanks to Grey's Anatomy and two of the other cast members are on CSI Miami.

http://blogs.pioneerlocal.com
2. Alias. I loved me some Sydney Bristow. The wigs, the fight scenes and above all, her love for Agent Michael Vaughan. However, I wasn't surprised when the show ended because the real-life relationship between Jen Garner and her co-star Michael Vartan also went kaput and that must have been awkward. Plus, that darn Rambaldi plot was too hard to follow. It was a good show for a while though, and it's missed.

http://tv.popcrunch.com
1. Prison Break. When I heard that PB was being cancelled and was in the process of wrapping up its final episodes, I had mixed feelings. As much as I love the characters, the show was never really the same since seaon one when they bust out of Fox River. I hope I see Went Miller in some more shows though - he's too pretty not to be on tv.

Send me your faves too and send me some shows which are still running but should be cancelled. Have a good weekend!

Fast and Furious crew are back

Just when we thought the streets were safe, another Fast and Furious movie is due to hit theatres in April. This time around, as the tagline goes, it's a new model with the original parts; the original cast members Vin Diesel, Paul Walker, Jordana Brewster and Michelle Rodriguez are back.

I might actually watch this one, 'cause I love me some Vin Diesel. I guess they're all returning to their roots, 'cause most of them haven't done a decent movie since the first Fast and Furious....

A little more love: Guess Who

Well, there're only two more days before the month of love ends - even though we should show love every day - so I've decided to post up a very easy guess who:

Who's the engaged couple looking all lovey-dovey during a trip to Africa?

Easy, right? None other than Mr. President himself, Barack Obama and his First Lady Michelle O. They too sweet.

Incidentally, last night the Obamas held a concert in the East Room of the White House and a party to celebrate Stevie Wonder being awarded the Library of Congress Gershwin Prize for Popular Song.

I love me some Stevie Wonder. From Superstition to Ribbon in the Sky, Stevie's body of work is a monument to the man's talent. Congrats, Stevie!

Obama's first address to joint session of Congress

Five weeks into his first term as President of the United States, Barack Obama gave his first address yesterday to a joint session of Congress. It was a frank speech and he didn't spare any of the sectors that could be held responsible for the current economic state of the USA. However, he did offer hope that the nation could be rebuilt.

You can read the story here and check out the video below.

Dear Rihanna....

Dear Rihanna,

Girl, I wasn't planning to blog nuh more 'bout your present 'troubles', 'cause I know that the case coming up soon and it's all up to the courts to decide on wuh really went down wid you and that lil boy.

Anyhow, that was the plan, till I butt up pun this story here. Girl, I hope you tell that fella which part he could stuff his gift!

Now, cuhdear, you mean to tell me that he haul off and smack you 'bout like he is Mike Tyson on crack, and he got the gall to think he could make it all better by sending you jewelry?! I know diamonds supposed to be a girl's best friend but he can't be for real!

I hope you ain't playing you falling for this stunt, 'cause I suspect he know he *ss is grass in court if you testify. I surprised he got any money left to be buying fancy diamonds, 'cause he like public enemy number one since his "mistake". The way things going he might not even be able to get a spot on Dancing with the Stars to stage a comeback.

Now, you never tell me wuh really happen, and some people say you start the fight. Maybe so, though I would hope that if you decide to pick a fight with a man you at least got some back up brass knuckles or something. But no matter how it start, the end result wasn't in your favour at all.

I know you love the lil idiot, but cuhdear, any man that could beat you and left you pun the side of the road ain't worth sh*te. Whitney kept going back to Bobby 'cause she did pun drugs; I don't think you have that excuse.

Take your own advice: tell him to Take a Bow, 'cause you goin' to Rehab. You don't plan on Breaking Dishes over him and as much as you hate that you love him, you might just have to stab him with your Umbrella next time.

Be strong, girl.

Love,

Bajegirl

The NY Post apologises - sorta

As expected, the New York Post is being swamped with a deluge of protests about their "satire" from earlier this week. Two hundred picketers have been marching in front of the paper, and rightfully so.

Click
here to read the so-called apology. They're blaming everyone but themselves.

It was only a matter of time...

We all know it was a matter of time before some media outlet got to the LAPD.

The internet is going nuts with the photos of Rihanna's abuse at the hands of Chris Brown. I really don't know what to say, except girl, if you go back to that man....

Since then, the LAPD has released a statement on the matter. You know someone in that office is retiring early...

Rihanna covers People

All the drama surrounding Rihanna and that boy will take centre stage tomorrow when the next edition of People Magazine hits newsstands, on Rihanna's 21st birthday of all days.

I've posted up many of Rihanna's covers over the past three years and it saddens me that our girl has made the cover of the popular mag for this craziness. It feels like one step above one of those True Hollywood Stories on E! Entertainment.

Girl, try and enjoy your day as best you can. You're fully legal now, but don't use that as an excuse to drink too much....

Photos of Charlie Axel Woods: Updated

I have the photos here for you now...no need to click below anymore.

A truly adorable family. Hey Tiger, isn't it about time you came back down to Barbados for some fun in the sun?

Ignorance never goes out of fashion

After President Barack Obama's triumph at the polls and the outpouring of goodwill extended towards him, it's only natural for those who subscribe to Racist Weekly to come outa the woodwork.

This so-called satire was featured in today's New York Post:

Uh-huh. Ain't nobody laughing, fools. And you know Rev. Al is all over that....

Stanford's properties in Antigua

During a trip to Antigua a few years ago, I took a few pics of Sir Allen Stanford's investments in Antigua, namely his investment bank which is on the airport's compound, his cricket stadium and the Sticky Wicket.

Oh well, I guess their future is in serious doubt now.

Stanford's Investment Bank

The Sticky Wicket

The entrance to the cricket ground

Passings

I'm a day late with this but I want to extend condolences to the families of playwright, novelist, journalist and doyenne of dialect Jeannette Layne-Clark who passed away after a battle with cancer.

She'll always be remembered for her Pampalam plays and Lickmout Lou columns, and for keeping young journalists on their toes. The one time that that Mrs. Layne-Clark had to call me was when I went against my better judgment and used a word I wasn't clear about in a broadcast. I felt as though I was in the Principal's office but she was quite cool in the end.

May she rest in peace.

I also wish to acknowledge the passing of supermarket magnet Lionel C. Hill, who passed away recently. Hill was quite a character...how many octogenarian supermarket directors do you know who would go on an all night stakeout to recover stolen pigtails?

Rest well, Lionel C. Hill.

Sir Allen Stanford arrested

Well the poo done hit the fan now. Breaking news just in is that Antigua-based business mogul Sir Alan Stanford has been arrested for a 16 billion dollar investment fraud by US authorities.

According to Cricinfo News, the Securities and Exchange Commission said that they were "alleging a fraud of shocking magnitude". You can check the story here.

Wuhloss. I always knew there was something shady about Stanford and how he threw his cash around the Caribbean. I hope Suleiman Benn and the other cricketers who became instant millionaires in the recent Twenty-Twenty cricket tournament don't have to give the money back. And you know the Queen's taking back his knighthood....

Chris Brown's "sorry and saddened"

Let the damage control begin. Chris Brown has finally broken his silence one week after his alleged beating of girlfriend Rihanna.

In a brief statement released through publicist Michael Sitrick on Sunday.

“Words cannot begin to express how sorry and saddened I am over what transpired. I am seeking the counseling of my pastor, my mother and other loved ones and I am committed, with God’s help, to emerging a better person. Much of what has been speculated or reported on blogs and/or reported in the media is wrong. While I would like to be able to talk about this more, until the legal issues are resolved, this is all I can say except that I have not written any messages or made any posts to Facebook, on blogs or any place else. Those posts or writings under my name are frauds.”

Whateva, lil boy. You betta hope Jay-Z doesn't catch up to you...

Meanwhile, I understand that Rihanna is back home and recuperating. You do your thing, girl.

Rihanna's father has also gotten caught up in the debacle. You can check the story here.

Chris Brown's doin' a lotta talking

I don't even feel like using too much energy to write about Chris Brown; just keeping you all up to date on what's going on. You can check here and here.

MediaTakeout usually knows what it's talking about so we'll see. According to sources Rihanna's on her way back to Barbados. Poor girl. Today Valentine's Day she should be enjoying herself, not hiding out from the paps.

Valentine's special - Fave tv/movie hook-ups

Well, as you all know tomorrow's Valentine's Day and I was scratching my head as to how to mark this event. I haven't done one of my Friday Fave lists in a while so here's a list of my fave Top Five tv and movie co-star hookups. I usually do a list of 10, but I couldn't think of 10 Hollywood couples who hooked up on set and were still together....

Anyhoo, here we go:

5. Jennifer Morrison and Jesse Spencer - House. House's Chase and Cameron don't have much use for each other on the show - Cameron's kinda hung up on grumpy Dr. House - but in real life the couple fell in love and were married in 2007.

4. Milo Ventimiglia and Hayden Panettiere - Heroes. You never know when or where love will find you. On Heroes indestructible teen Claire Bennett is the niece of the moody Peter Petrelli; in reality 18-year old Hayden is dating her 30-year old co-star Milo. Talk about keeping it all in the family....

3. James Tupper and Anne Heche - Men in Trees. Anne Heche loves some drama. Remember when she was dating Ellen Degeneres and left Ellen and got married to a man? Well, since then she's left her husband for her co-star on the recently cancelled series Men in Trees, James Tupper. I hope she gets her happy ending....

2.Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie - Mr. & Mrs. Smith. If you watched the movie Mr. & Mrs. Smith, the spark between co-stars Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie was undeniable. It therefore came as no surprise when news broke that the philanthropic Ms. Jolie and Hollywood golden boy Pitt were an item.

1. Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith - Fresh Prince of Belair. Will and Jada met on the set of his popular sitcom when she was auditioning for the role of his girlfriend (ironic, oui?) She didn't get the part but somewhere along the line she stole his heart.

And the couple that millions out there in tvland wish was a couple:

Wentworth Miller and Sarah Wayne Callies - Prison Break. I don't know if any other tv couple has spawned as much fanfiction as Prison Break's Michael and Sara (pictured with costar Amaury Nolasco). Fans would love if these two would hookup, but alas, Ms. Callies is married and recently had a baby. Boo hoo.

If you want to see more of my fave tv couples, check out this post I did way back.

Have a great Valentine's Day!

Meet Jon Favreau

If like me you were made emotional by many of the speeches made by President Barack Obama in his run for the White House, (especially his acceptance speech on election night) then the 28 year-old man pictured above is responsible.

Meet Jon Favreau, Obama's Director of Speechwriting, who is a former speech writer for Senator John Kerry. You can read more about him here and here.

No doubt he's part of the reason why Obama was able to tap the pulse of the young people of America the way he did....

Chris Brown has 99 problems....and Jay-Z is one

I was waiting to see how Rihanna's mentor and producer was going to react to her debacle with Chris Brown. I had read that he was blue vex on the red carpet at the Grammy's on Sunday, but now apparently he has broken his silence.

According to Us Weekly, Jay Z is enraged. "He hit the roof," says a source close to the rapper. "Chris is a walking dead man. He messed with the wrong crew."

Meanwhile, despite his tarnished image, Chris Brown is in the running for outstanding male artist at the 40th annual NAACP Image Awards. The awards are being presented Thursday night at the Shrine Auditorium and airing on Fox. Coincidentally, Rihanna, is up for outstanding female artist.

Interesting indeed.

I'm still waiting for confirmation that Rihanna is indeed on the island. You know I'll keep you posted.

Rihanna back home

The latest word is that Rihanna is back home to recover from the trauma of the past few days. Will keep you posted.

Michelle O. does Vogue + congrats to Tiger!

I've been so caught up in blogging about Rihanna and that li'l Brown boy that I'm now getting around to mentioning a few other happenings.

First Lady Michelle Obama will grace the cover of an upcoming edition of Vogue Magazine; Hillary Clinton is the only other First Lady to make the cover of that mag.

So fabulous. It's good to see that Vogue is finally spreading its wings when it comes to their covers....

Congratulations are extended to golfing master Tiger Woods, whose wife Elin gave birth to their second child, Charlie Axel Rose (it's a boy), on Sunday, February 8. Can't wait to see the photos. You all know I'm on that.

Text message started fight between Rihanna and Chris Brown

Hey, peoples. Well as expected more info is pouring in about what really happened between Rihanna and Chris Brown in the wee hours of Sunday morning. According to police reports (these guys have some seriously loose lips), Chris Brown received a text message from a from a woman who wrote about hooking up with him later. I really hope a certain hotel heiress isn't the woman, 'cause I tell yuh...

Apparently an enraged Rihanna threw away the car keys once the car came to a halt and the fight was on from there. You can see more details here, though I caution you to take it with a wee bit of salt.

Reports are also out on Rihanna's injuries. According to TMZ.com:

Cops took multiple pictures at the scene. Chris Brown allegedly hit Rihanna so hard with his fists, she could barely open her eyes for the photos -- they were almost completely swollen shut. She had a fat lip, her mouth was swollen, her nose was badly bloodied, and she had contusions on her forehead and both sides of her face.

Of course Brown's camp is still saying it was an accident and other people are weighing in the situation, including T.I., Kanye West and Brown's step-father. You can be sure that this he said/she said situation is gonna spiral out of control just now.

Our prayers are with you, Rih-Rih.

Update: Rihanna cooperating with police; things brown for Chris

Okay now it seems as if Rihanna is cooperating with police.

Chris Brown's 'Got Milk' ad campaign has been pulled as well.

Oh well. That's what happens when you act like Ike Turner or Mike Tyson.

Rihanna 'okay'; Chris Brown 'a little concerned'

Well, it's day two into the Rihanna/Chris Brown debacle and speculation is still rife about what really went down in that car in Hancock Park.

In today's issue of the Nation Newspaper, Rihanna's grandmother is reported as saying that the pop star was "okay" and didn't have a broken nose as reported. Of course, she didn't refute that her grandchild was injured, and in this case okay could just mean she's not laid up in a hospital bed.

Meanwhile, rap star T.I is saying that he spoke to Chris Brown and that the R&B star was "a little concerned". What an understatement, lil boy. You should be, since not only will your career be over if you're found guilty of domestic violence charges, but you're not gonna see the outside for a while either.

Rihanna has apparently postponed her concert in Malaysia this week and if that doesn't scream recovering out of the spotlight I don't know what does. You all know it's just a matter of time before photos with her facial injuries turn up on the Net.

I won't bother to type all the rumours going around out there; I'll just say that I have it on good authority that these two are not strangers to volatile behaviour. I have a feeling that after the injuries have healed and the hurt feelings have died down, and especially if pressure is brought to bear on her, Rihanna isn't going to press charges.

I don't intend to judge her harshly if she does; as a woman she would have to know how much she's willing to take from any man and what message she'll be sending if she drop the case.

Recover soon, Rihanna and to Chris Brown - boy you mek me shame. I did like you real bad, but now I can' even listen to your music. No Air, for real.

UPDATE:
According to MediaTakeOut.com, Defamer and other sites, Rihanna isn't planning on pressing charges against Chris Brown for assault and battery. (No surprise there).

They're also reporting that Police state that she sustained "horrific" facial injuries as a result of the beating, including contusions to the side of her face and bite marks on her arms and hands. Also, apparently it was someone who heard her screams and not Rihanna herself who called the police.

Not surprisingly, her big 21st birthday bash on February 20 in NYC has been cancelled.

Wrigley Doublemint Gum has halted their endorsement deal with Chris Brown for now until more facts become clea about this case.

I'll try and keep you all updated on this sad case.
